2023 Spring Local Show, Workshop and Members’ Plant Sale

Here’s the schedule for the Spring Local Show. Note that exhibits must be staged by 2.30pm.
Plants Section
Class 1 | 1 pan Alpine Plant in Flower. |
Class 2 | 1 pan Saxifraga. |
Class 3 | 1 pan Primula. |
Class 4 | 1 pan Cyclamen. |
Class 5 | 1 pan Bulbous Plant. |
Class 6 | 1 pan Cushion Plant. |
Class 7 | 1 pan Rock Plant (judged for foliage effect). |
Class 8 | 1 pan Dwarf Conifer. |
Class 9 | 1 pan Fern. |
Class 10 | 1 pan alpine grown from seed by exhibitor. Date of sowing to be supplied. |
Class 11 | 1 Miniature garden. Round pots should not exceed 36cm and rectangular pots should not exceed 1000 cm² in area |
Class 12 | 1 Small Vase of cut flowers of alpine plants, including dwarf shrubs. Exhibitor to supply container and list of names |
Class 13 | 1 Pot or Pan of Alpine Plant. Restricted to exhibitors who have not won a first prize at any AGS Show. |
Photographic Section
Class 14 | 1 colour photograph of an alpine plant, showing the characteristic Habit of the plant growing in the wild. |
Class 15 | 1 colour photograph of an alpine plant, showing the characteristic Habit of the plant in cultivation. |
Class 16 | 1 colour photograph of an alpine garden, landscape or habitat. |
Class 17 |
1 colour photograph of an alpine plant either in the wild or in cultivation. (Open only to exhibitors who have not won a first prize in the artistic section at a local or main AGS show) |
Note 1
Images printed digitally using a computer, with MINOR adjustments to improve print quality, are allowed in ALL classes. Photographs will be judged on both technical and artistic qualities including focus and depth of field, exposure, accuracy of colour, and composition.
Note 2
Photographs must have been taken by the exhibitor; processing may be done professionally.
Note 3
Photographs must be mounted and must measure at least 15cm × 10cm excluding mount, and at most 40cm × 30cm including mount. No glass or framing please.
Note 4
The name and address of the exhibitor should appear on the reverse side, the name of the plant and the place where the picture was taken should appear on the front.
A Kiltrea pot will be presented to the competitor who gains the greatest number of points overall (1st prize – 3 points; 2nd prize – 2 points; 3rd prize – 1 point).
The Margaret Orsi Trophy watering can will be presented to the best plant in the Show.
There is also a non-competitive section and members may enter more than one plant in this.
